Christine King
Often narrative in nature with portrayal of social scenes, King’s work is inspired by the elegance of the nineteen-thirties through to the trends of the present day. Distinctive for individual style and striking use of colour her paintings are composites of imagination and observation. King aims to “...convey an atmosphere” hoping viewers may experience nostalgia. Commenting “I always believe people relate to people.” She finds it important “to be true to myself. Not to follow what is the current trend.” Balancing colour, form and subject matter, her figures inhabit edgy jazziness with her chosen medium. Works are represented in private collections throughout New Zealand, Australia, Europe and North America.
